For the month of May we will be focusing on Spring myths from different cultures. We will search for connections in the different cultures while discussing the similarities and differences between each of the stories.

This week's story focuses on the Ancient Greek myth explaining spring. We will learn about the goddesses Demeter and Persophone, along with Hades, the god of the underworld. Join us as we learn about how Hades' visit to the world of the living with his beloved dog, Cerebrus, leads to a love story for the ages, and the changing of the seasons! We will make connections between the Ancient Greek myth of Persophone, Demeter, & Hades and the Hopi legend of the Blue Corn Maiden.

Do you ever wonder why it seems like one day spring is here to stay, and the next winter returns with bitter cold and snow? Join us this week as we read the Hopi Legend of The Blue Corn Maiden. In Hopi lore Corn Maidens are sisters who bring corn to the lands, the Blue Corn Maiden is the most beautiful, gentle, and kind of the sisters. Winter Katsina sees Blue Corn Maiden collecting fire wood one and immediately falls in love with her. Blue Corn Maiden becomes Winter Katsina's prisoner after becoming trapped inside his house by a door of snow and ice. How will Blue Corn Maiden return to her world and provide the corn that provides nourishment for the Hopi people?
