Al Larsson It was through an astronomical event in August 2003 when Mars was as close to the Earth as it had been in 60,000 years that awakened Al and his wife Dotti’s interest in astronomy. This led to their involvement in The Rey Center and Al became part of the Curious Cottage (The Rey Center) Steering Committee. Al spent more time in Waterville Valley after retiring and in addition to skiing became interested in many activities in the area and became the first President of the Board of the Margret and H.A. Rey Center. Prior to his time in Waterville, Al spent many years at Raytheon as a research and development engineer. His last project included being responsible for the power supplies in the Iridium Satellite System from which grew his interest in space. In more recent years Al has been coordinating the Sky Watch program with the New Hampshire Astronomical Society. This program has developed over the years so that it is not unusual to have around 50 people in attendance. A highlight was during this year’s solar eclipse he had well over 100 people observing at his scope and at the Cottage. In addition to continuing the Sky Watch program, he sits on his condominium board, is an officer in a regional car club and is a board member of the New Hampshire Music Festival.
